What you say above makes sense but does not explain the inconsistency between what I see from speed tests run using the AT&T internet connection and what I see using a cable internet connection. What is the cable companies software and hardware and networks doing on the internet that AT&T is not? Meanwhile, another connection to the cable network tonight and run of speed tests from AT&T, Google and many others continues to consistently return a rating of close to 60. Something seems to be controlling/producing these fairly consistent results using an AT&T connection. It is really odd that the AT&T speed test keeps coming in at or close to 50 and the Google speed test keeps coming in at or close to 10 and all the rest of the speed tests I run keep coming in at or close to 30. I wonder how the cable company is able to achieve close to the same speed test results regardless of what speed test software I use but AT&T is not able to achieve this same thing?Ĭould AT&T have software controls that govern or limit the band width used when they interact with different companies?
